Leaving for Iceland for 5 months also includes catching up with people. I’ve had a number of meals, and coffees with friends who I will miss seeing until the end of the year. I was especially glad I was able to get down to Puerto Rico to see my father before I left. It was a good visit and it is always good to be in Puerto Rico. I’m not sure my family is up for a trip to Iceland, but I am grateful for their support and encouragement.
Despite a difference in climate, there are many similarities between Iceland and Puerto Rico. Being islands there are economic challenges. When I was a boy making my first visit to Puerto Rico, my aunt picked me up at the airport and told me: “this is an island, and everything is more expensive.” The same phrase was used by my tour guide on my first visit to Iceland in 2017. The similarities continue because they are both seismically active (although more dramatic in Iceland) and both islands see a large number of tourists each year. I could write about more of these similarities (and differences)–but visit both Puerto Rico and Iceland and see for yourself. You can even do what I did and visit them both in the same month!
